War of 1812 Soldiers

This is a list of soldiers who have connections to Perry County and served in the War of 1812. This is not a complete list and more are added as they are discovered. Our local genealogy colleague, Molly Hall, compiled this list through her exhaustive research of local soldiers. War of 1812

1) JOHN ACKERMAN - Listed as on the Perry County, Indiana Archives Military Records for Land Grants in Perry County. He received land bounty in Perry County, was in the New York Militia and eventually moved to Logansport, Indiana. His obituary states he was the last survivor that witnessed the famous dual between Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton.  

2) JOHN BAPTIST ALVEY - Served under Captain Samuel Connor in the Indiana 1st Regiment as a Volunteer. He applied for the land bounty, but unfortunately died before receiving it. He is buried at the St. Augustine Cemetery and has a tombstone stating his service in the War of 1812.

3) JAMES ASHBURY - Died at the Battle of Tippecanoe on 7 November 1811. Served under Captain David Robb Indiana Mounted Rifleman Militia. Court records indicate his wife Fanny is trying to get guardianship of their only child "William".

4) JOHN ASKINS (ASKINGS) - Served in Joseph Allen's Kentucky Milita. He is on early census records in Perry County, but moves to Breckinridge County, Kentucky. His widow received a pension for his service.

5) WILLIAM ASKINS (ASKINGS) - Served in David Robb's Indiana Mounted Riflemen. Was in battle of Tippecanoe and also was in Captain Samuel Connor's 1st Indiana Regiment. William Askins has military record and received land bounty in Perry County.

6) WILBERT BARLOW - Served in Captain Samuel Connor's Indiana 1st Regiment. He is mentioned in some of the Perry County History books and records show he bought land in Rome. He did not stay long and moved to Kentucky.

7) DENNISON SMITH BILLINGS - 37th Regiment United States Militia. Received land bounty in Perry County.

8) WILLIAM BOLIN (BOLAND, BOLING) - Served in David Robb's Indiana Mounted Riflemen. Was in the battle of Tippecanoe. Is in early Perry County census records.

9) JAMES BUTLER - Served in Captain Samuel Connor's 1st Regiment Indiana Militia.

10) JOHN CASSIDY (CASADY) - 12th Regiment Indiana Militia. His name appears in the book Executive Journal of the Indiana Territory along with several other Perry County men.  This book tells of the first judges, sheriff's and regiments in Indiana's beginnings. Indiana was forming right in the middle of this war. A John Casady also appears under Captain Memorial Forrest Kentucky Volunteer's.

John Cassidy is buried in the St. John's Cemetery. His tombstone is not marked as a soldier of 1812.

11) DAVID COLBY - Served in the 1st Regiment Dudley's Massachusetts Militia. Received land bounty in Perry County and is buried in the Colby Cemetery in Oil Township.

12) JOHN COURCIER - Served under Captain Myer's Co. 1st Regiment Maryland. Received land bounty in Perry County.

13)  JOHN CONNOR - Served under William Hargrove's Co. Volunteer Mounted Rangers Indiana Militia.

14)  SAMUEL CONNOR - Was Captain in the Indiana 1st Regiment. Received land bounty in Perry County. Buried in the Connor family cemetery.

15) TERRENCE CONNOR JR. - Brother to Samuel, was in Captain Samuel Connor's Indiana 1st Regiment Militia.

16)  JOHN CRIST - Served under Captain David Robb Mounted Riflemen, was wounded in the battle of Tippecanoe.

17) ALEXANDER CUNNINGHAM - Captain Lunsford Oliver's Tennessee Militia. Received land bounty in Perry County. Buried in Miller Cemetery.

18) JOHN CUMMINS (CUMMINGS) - Captain Samuel Connor's Co. 1st Reg. Indiana Militia

19) RICHARD DEEN (DEAN) - Captain Samuel Connor's Co. 1st Reg. Indiana Militia.

20) WILLIAM DEEN (DEAN) - Captain Samuel Connor's Co. 1st Reg. Indiana Militia.

21) JAMES DEJARNETT - Served in Captain James Dyametto's Co. of Infantry in Kentucky. Also, mentioned in Perry County's History as a soldier of 1812.

22) EDWARD ERSKINE - Served in Captain Samuel Connor's 1st Reg. Indiana Militia. Is in Perry County History books.

23) JOHN FARRIS - Served in Captain John Begg's Troop Light Dragoons. 2nd Regiment Indiana Militia.

Fought in Battle of Tippecanoe. Buried in Farris Family Cemetery. Exists only by deed, actual cemetery has been destroyed.

24) JOHN MCFALL - 10th Regiment Kentucky Mounted Militia.

25) JOHN RIGGS - Captain David Robb Mounted Militia and Captain Samuel Connor's Militia. Fought in the Battle of Tippecanoe.

26) ABRAHAM MURPHEY - Captain Samuel Connor's 1st Reg. Indiana Militia.

27) ANTHONY HORTON - Served in Captain William Walker's Kentucky Detached Militia.  Received land bounty.

28) CHARLES KELLEMS - Kentucky Militia Captain Benjmain Shacketts Company. Kentucky Mounted Vol.  Widow received land bounty in Perry County.

29) PHILIP JENKINS - Served in Captain Benjamin Shacketts Co. Kentucky Mounted Vol.

30) DANIEL HAYES - Captain William Walker Kentucky Detached Militia, 13th Reg. Kentucky Militia under Captain Smith. Received land bounty in Perry County.

31) THOMAS GILHAM - Virginia Militia, received land bounty in Perry County.

32) LUTHER GREATHOUSE - 14th Reg. Kentucky Militia. Received land bounty and later moved to Spencer County.

33) JAMES GARDNER - William Walker's Co. Kentucky Militia.

34) PETER KINDER - William Walker's Co. Kentucky Militia.

35) THOMAS GOATLY - William Walker's Co. Kentucky Militia.

36) CHARLES POLKE - Andrew Wilkins 1st Reg. 2nd Batt. I. M.

37) EDMUND POLKE - Captain Samuel Connor's 1st Reg. I. M.

38) ISAAC JACKSON - Captain William Walker's Co. Kentucky Militia.

39) PHILIP MILLER - Captain Benjamin Shackett's Co. Kentucky Mounted Militia.

40) ABRAHAM HURST - Captain Jacob Zenor's Co. 5th Reg. Indiana Vol. Militia. Buried in Troy Cemetery.

41) HOMER Z. HULL - U.S. Army Soldier of 1812 listed on tombstone in Hull Family Cemetery, Perry County.  Was from New York.

42) ROBERT NILES - New York Infantry. Received pension here in County. Also, is in Perry County History books as being a soldier of 1812.

43) SAMUEL KELLEMS - Listed in Perry County History books as being a soldier for the War of 1812.

44) RICHARD POTTS - Served in Thomas Spencer's 4th Reg. Mounted Riflemen, Indiana Militia.

45) WILLIAM BLACK - Captain Thomas Spencer's 4th Reg. Mounted Riflemen, Indiana  Militia.

46) HENRY RHODES - Captain Samuel Connor's 1st Reg. Indiana Militia. Received land bounty.

47) JOHN EWING - Captain Thomas Spencer's Co. 4th Reg. Mounted Riflemen, IN Militia.

48) THOMAS BOWMAN - Captain McRae's 2nd Reg. Indiana  Vol. Received land bounty.

49) JAMES BRISTOW - Was Quartermaster in Lt. Col. James Allen Reg. KY Mounted Vol. Militia.

50) WILLIAM DUNBAR - Ensign in 8th Reg. I.M. He is in the Perry County 1820 census.

51) WILLIAM DODD - Captain John Jones was in the Hopkin's Campaign according to Wallace Weatherholt.

52) JOHN DODSON (DOTSON, DOTSONS) - 17th Reg. U.S. Inf. Heirs received land bounty here.

53) ROBERT GARDNER - Listed as a soldier of 1812 in Perry County History Books. Buried in Connor Cemetery.

54) HART HUMPHREY - 101st New York Militia.

55) EZRA LAMB - 1st Reg. I.M. Captain Samuel Connor's.

56) SOLOMON LAMB - 1st. Reg. I.M. Captain Samuel Connor's.

57) HENRY MILLER - Captain Allen's Kentucky Militia.  Received land bounty.

58) NICHOLAS MILLS - 24th Reg. U.S. Infantry. Received land bounty.

59) JOHN MORGAN - Indiana Militia. Received land bounty in Perry County for service.

60) WILLIAM MYERS - Robinson's Co. Kentucky Vol. Received land bounty for service.

61) EZEKIEL PETTY - Indiana Vol. Received land bounty in Perry County for service.

62) WILLIAM SAMUEL - Hughes Co. Indiana Militia. Received land bounty in Perry County.

63) JAMES TATE - 3rd Reg. Kentucky Vol. Militia Received land bounty in Perry County.

64)  ELIJAH WALKER - Indiana Vol. Received land bounty in Perry County for service.

65) DANIEL YOUNG - Indiana 1st Reg. Captain Samuel Connor's.

66) SAMUEL TRENARY - Indiana 1st Reg. Captain Samuel Connor's Militia.

67) WILLIAM WEATHERHOLT - Captain David Robb's Indiana Mounted Riflemen. Fought in Battle of Tippecanoe.

68) JOSEPH TOBIN - Captain David Robb's Indiana Mounted Riflemen. Fought in Battle of Tippecanoe.

69) MOSES SANDRIDGE (SANDAGE) - Captain David Robb's Indiana Mounted Riflemen. Fought in Battle of Tippecanoe.

70) ISAAC MYERS - Captain Joseph Lancaster's Co. Kentucky Mounted Vol. Received land bounty.
